Montecarlo: The 48° International Bouquet Competition celebrates Russia, with Flowers and Art.

On Saturday the 30th and on Sunday the 31st May, the 48° International Bouquet Competition was held at the Espace Chapiteau in Fontvieille (Principality of Monaco). This event was organised by theGarden Club of Monaco, under High Patronage of HSH the Prince Albert of Monaco and the HRH Princess Carolina of Hannover.

More than one thousand of experts and amateurs took part to this prestigious contest, in its 2015 edition, to show their knowledge of the floral Art. Coming from all over the World, all the contesters were able to create refined pieces of art, made of vegetable materials and inspired by the century-old cultural tradition of the Great Russia, while the Principality is celebrating the Russian Culture all along 2015.

Plunged into a relaxing atmosphere ruled by the sound of Nature, the visitors have experienced a virtual journey starting from the Forests of the Urals, skilfully performed thanks to the unique floral compositions, towards the Royal vegetable gardens, enriched by fruit and aromatic plants.

Enchanting miniatures of Datcha gardens (traditional Russian Country Houses) accurately reproduced and adorned by baby vegetables and colourful Matryoshka (traditional Russian dolls), arouse the audience’s general surprise and  wonder. A special section of the exhibition was dedicated to the great tradition of Russian Ballets and to the protagonists of the Russian Opera at the Bolshoi Theatre. Besides that, creative floral Samovar (traditional huge silver teapot) and amazing eggs of Fabergé: exquisite vegetable accurate miniatures. The contesters dedicated some of their floral pieces of art to the Russian spatial conquest using a futurist design in order to celebrate heroines like the astronaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereškova.

The area devoted to the table decorations, inspired by the refinement of the Tsar Court, was particularly relevant.

On Saturday, the winners were awarded prizes by the Princess of Hannover during an exclusive ceremony at the Hotel Hermitage. In fact, to each category (10 on the whole) it was awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal plus some special mentions (e.g.: Sense of Humour, Best Decoration etc.).

The exhibition at the Espace Chapiteau allowed the visitors to enjoy, simultaneously, some interesting paintings inspired by Nature and Flowers. Significant example of these are the watercolours by Maria Pia Luly Jones, an artist who lives and paints in Bordighera. The painter, fond of flower shapes and colours, achieves high levels of chromatic expressiveness focusing on botanical details, only with the use of the watercolours talented painting technique.
